When vacancies occur, interviews are arranged with selected applicants holding proper licensure, provided all required information has been received. The principal screens applications forwarded from Human Resources and selects eligible candidates for interview. After interviewing these candidates, the principal and his/her interview team makes a recommendation to the Executive Director of Human Resources. Offers of employment are extended from Human Resources. The applicant, upon accepting the offer, contacts the Benefits Specialist for an appointment to complete appropriate forms for employment. A criminal history record check will also be completed. A drug test is required. Upon approval of the Board of Education, a contract is issued and signed.

Applicants must hold or be qualified to hold at least the "A" certificate issued by the State Department of Public Instruction, Raleigh, North Carolina. The "A" certificate must be based upon at least a Bachelors' degree in education.
Applicants are responsible for obtaining a North Carolina teacher's license and filing it with the Office of Human Resources. Applicants still in teacher training should check with their college education department concerning licensure. Out-of-state applicants should contact the Division of Teacher Licensure, State Department of Public Instruction, 301 North Wilmington Street, Raleigh, North Carolina 27611, regarding licensure to teach in the area of the application. This information may be found online.
You should request your college or university to send a copy of your transcript to Human Resources. Both undergraduate and graduate transcripts are desired. Beginning teachers should file a supplemental transcript after requirements for the degree are met.
Your application should include the name, position, complete mailing address, and work and home phone numbers of at least three references, such as principals and supervisors, who have first hand knowledge of your professional preparation and competence. References such as relatives are not acceptable.

North Carolina Lateral Entry Information - The North Carolina General Statutes for lateral entry allows qualifying skilled individuals (with at least a bachelor’s degree) outside of the public education system to enter the teaching profession.
